Rose Zefferino

CEO + Principal Designer

She didn't come to construction through design. She came to design through construction.

That distinction is everything.

Rose's Story

By the time Rose Zefferino was 25, she was managing over $60 million in residential construction projects. Not assisting. Not coordinating. Managing budgets, schedules, trades, clients, and the thousand decisions that determine whether a build comes together or falls apart.

I understood construction from the inside out before I ever touched a design project. That changed everything about how I approach this work.

That background is what separates Rose from virtually every other designer in the market. Most designers learn to work alongside builders. Rose learned to think like one. She knows what a late finish selection costs a builder. She knows how decisions made in week two affect what's possible in week twelve. And she knows that the gap between a beautiful design and a beautiful, buildable design is exactly where projects go wrong.

Rose leverages her two decades of experience with each client. She spent a decade in construction, from design through production, all before founding Z. Domus Designs a decade ago. She has earned a reputation across the region as someone who could navigate both worlds with equal fluency: the precision and discipline of construction, and the vision and craft of design. Builders trusted her. Clients loved working with her. That combination became the foundation of the firm.

Credentials

  • Pennsylvania Homebuilders Association
  • ASID Member
  • Licensed Real Estate Agent
  • Principal Designer, Z. Domus Designs

Rose has a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Economics from Cornell University and a Masters in Construction Management from NYU.  She is also a licensed real estate agent in addition to her design credentials, which gives her a practical understanding of how design choices affect market value, knowledge that directly benefits her builder clients and any homeowner thinking about long-term investment, not just immediate aesthetics.

Outside the studio, Rose is most at home with family and friends, searching for the right coffee table book, traveling in search of remarkable beaches — often dragging her husband along to enjoy the fruits of their hard work — and spoiling her dog Alfie. Her husband jokes that they fell in love over strategic plans for their businesses, which might be more true than either of them wants to admit. If you know Rose, you know that she has a standing Wednesday night dinner with her five best friends, every single week. Her friendships are very important to her and help keep her grounded, despite all of the press coverage and acclaim she has received from Architectural Digest, Forbes and Home & Garden. Rose is also an active member of the Pennsylvania Homebuilders Association and ASID, not as a formality, but because staying connected to both industries is part of how she stays sharp.

Z. Domus Designs

Malvern, PA

A firm built around one idea: beautiful design and sound construction are the same thing, done right.

Our Approach

Z. Domus Designs was founded on the belief that the best interior design outcomes happen when the designer genuinely understands construction, not as a background detail, but as the operating reality within which every design decision lives. That belief shapes everything about how the firm works. Our design philosophy and training also allows us to create custom and unique furnishings that not only look great but function well in our clients’ homes.

We come in early, because that's when it matters most.

Design decisions made before a build starts cost less, create fewer surprises, and produce better outcomes than decisions made under pressure mid-construction. We advocate for early involvement for builders and homeowners alike.

We design for how people actually live, not how spaces photograph.

A room should function as well as it looks. Furnishings, flow, materials, light, and proportion aren't aesthetic choices in isolation, they're the things that determine whether a space works for the person in it every day.

We obsess about the details, because details are what make something truly right.

The difference between a good project and an exceptional one is almost always found in the specifics. Execution, coordination, follow-through, and the willingness to care about things that most people would let slide.

We treat every project as a relationship, not a transaction.

Our clients, homeowners and builders alike, come back because the experience of working with us is as good as the outcome. That's not an accident. It's how we're built. In fact, many of our clients ask us to do their second and third homes in locations from Stone Harbor to Palm Beach. Once they experience Z. Domus Designs' comfortably luxe living, they want it in every home.  Let's talk if you have a home outside the northeast and looking for our process and results.

The Team

Curated the same way she curates everything else — with intention.

Rose built her team the way she approaches a design project: thoughtfully, specifically, and with a clear sense of what she was looking for. Every person on the Z. Domus team was chosen for their character as much as their skill, because this work requires people who are genuinely invested in the outcome, not just the process.

The team brings expertise across interior design, project management, construction coordination, sourcing, and client services. Together they run a firm that can handle the full scope of a complex project—from pre-construction planning through final installation—without losing the personal attention that makes the work feel tailored rather than templated.

When you work with Z. Domus, you work with the whole team. Rose leads every project, and her team executes with the same standards she holds herself to.

The Studio

5,000 sq ft - Malvern, PA
The studio isn't a showroom. It's how we work.

The Z. Domus studio is one of the firm's most significant differentiators: 5,000 square feet of working space where builders, homeowners, and trade partners come together to make decisions with real materials, real finishes, and real context, often in real time. No chasing samples across multiple showrooms. No trying to remember what the tile looked like when you're standing in the flooring store three days later. We bring it all together so you can see how your selections actually work as a cohesive whole.

For homeowners, it makes the design process concrete and confident. For builders, it accelerates selections and reduces the friction that design decisions too often create mid-construction. For both, it reflects the way Z. Domus approaches everything: bring the right resources together, create the conditions for good decisions, and let the work speak.

Recognition from people who know the difference...

"Awards are nice. These particular ones come from an industry that knows exactly what it takes to pull off a beautiful room and a sound build at the same time. That's the recognition I value most: not just for how a space looks, but for how well it was designed and built. It's proof that the two aren't separate skills, they're one skill, done right." ~ Rose Zefferino

What a Late Tile Decision Actually Costs

Most renovation surprises aren't bad luck. They're the predictable result of design and construction working as two separate processes instead of one. Rose Zefferino breaks down what changes when your designer understands construction from the inside.
