The Situation
A family in Malvern loved their home and their neighborhood. What they didn't love was how the house functioned day to day. The kitchen was tight and inefficient, the mudroom was a bottleneck, and the layout created friction at every turn. Moving wasn't the answer. Fixing it was.
What We Did
Rose started with the floor plan, not the finishes. Removing the wall between the pantry and kitchen opened the space and brought disconnected areas into alignment. In the mudroom, pathways opened up, and a hybrid storage system was designed around how the family actually moves through the house: closed storage facing the kitchen, open drop zones near the side entry, cubbies sized for kids' gear. Dark cabinetry proves that you don’t have to go white to have an open feeling kitchen space – it’s all about proportions, lighting, and a keen eye for detail. A wallpaper with a subtle olive motif tied the mudroom and powder room together. First floor furnishings followed, building on what was already there rather than starting over.
The Result
The same home, completely different to live in. Small, strategic changes created a daily experience that finally matched what the family needed. Nothing was replaced that didn't need to be.
We had a really great experience working with Rose and her team. In a few rooms, we wanted to keep existing elements like our wallpaper, light fixtures, and window treatments. They seamlessly brought in new furniture and artwork without it feeling like everything was being completely redone.
One of my favorite details is the purple mirror in the mudroom powder room. It matches the wallpaper perfectly and feels like such a thoughtful detail.
