The Story

Rockwell Custom brought Z. Domus in at the construction phase of a ground-up family home in Berwyn. The clients were building for the long haul: five children, a busy household, and a need for a home that could absorb real life without losing its design integrity. Rockwell needed a design partner who could keep pace with the build and deliver selections that held up under pressure.

What We Did

Rose came in before a single wall went up, guiding the full construction finishes process alongside the Rockwell team. Every selection was made with the family's actual lifestyle in mind. One early decision: a dog wash station, before the family even owned a dog. That kind of anticipatory thinking became the project's throughline. The kitchen earned recognition from Best of PA Living. Two years after move-in, the clients returned for a whole-home furnishings engagement, because the bones were right and they were ready to finish what they'd started.

The Result

A home that worked from day one and kept getting better. Two distinct phases of work, years apart, executed by the same team with the same standards. For Rockwell, a design partner who delivered on schedule, kept their client happy, and made the build look exceptional.

Working with ZDD was truly such a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The entire process felt seamless, intentional, and incredibly personal. Every member of the team brought their own expertise to the table, yet everything flowed together effortlessly. You could feel that there was a shared vision guiding every decision, and that alignment made the experience not only professional, but genuinely inspiring.

What stood out most was the care behind every single selection. Nothing felt random or just “for looks.” Each piece was chosen with purpose — considered not only on its own, but in how it would live in the room and connect to the spaces around it.

Our home has an open floor plan with long sight lines, so creating distinction without losing cohesion was important to us. ZDD handled that balance beautifully. Each room has its own personality, yet together they feel connected and harmonious. The result is a home that feels layered, thoughtful, and completely unified — and most importantly, like us.

What a Late Tile Decision Actually Costs

Most renovation surprises aren't bad luck. They're the predictable result of design and construction working as two separate processes instead of one. Rose Zefferino breaks down what changes when your designer understands construction from the inside.
